There is much missing from our life during this pandemic. We feel the absence of family and friends. We have missed holidays, camping trips, a wedding, school buildings, concerts, museums, Utah, road trips, hockey games, playdates, dinners, etc. Besides the bigger memory makers – we also miss normal things like playground stops after school pick-up, restaurant dates while kids are at hockey practice, stopping at the zoo for a quick hour without a reservation, perusing library shelves, kids playing outside with friends without masks…
In the shadow of what others have lost, we are very fortunate and then some. We have had the healthiest year of each of our lives. Skye has not had a croupy night since last April. Hallelujah! We have all had more time to explore new things – guitar, documentaries, drawing, bird watching, reading, donut making, gardening, hiking…. Here is what we feel thankful for this freezing, frigid, February morning.
I’m thankful for my woodsy neighborhood – the 4 miles of hilly, golf course trails I can walk, my library system that has curbside pick up, Skye’s preschool in the woods and her adventurous teachers, and for K and B’s amazing teachers who have made virtual school a personal and enriching experience. In no particular order, I’m also grateful for vaccines, grocery delivery, starry night skies, my personal great horned owl buddy, headphones, and Disney plus.
We all feel very blessed. Here are all of their answers to the question – “What are you thankful for during this pandemic?”
Skye – “Wild Haven (school). Berkeley. Sadie (babysitter). My Christmas Trapeeze. Alexa (smart speaker:). Gigi & Cleo (cats). Story Spot.”
Katahdin – “Bird watching. My teachers. Scouts. Cats. Guitar. Kerbal Space Program. “
Berkeley – “Audiobooks. Cats. Climbing. Ms. Emily (dance teacher). Books. “
Phil – “Yard. Internet. Phones. Gym in the basement. Guitar Lessons. Max. “
