Matisse – The Green Pumpkin

The Green Pumpkin by Henri Matisse in the Impressionist wing at the RISD Art Museum.

At Tours for Tots today, the focus was on ‘close things, far things.’  They took the kids to see the painting The Green Pumpkin and had a preschool size discussion about what is far and what is near in the picture.  The kids’ minds were blown when the window frame was pointed out.  Then we walked to the glass bridge between galleries and the kids drew what they saw.

This may be a preschool size art class, but don’t tell Berkeley. She takes this as serious as a board exam.

Notice them both holding one hand of Trisha the doll and Katahdin’s dog is riding in his hood.
