In preparation for the RI Philharmonic’s preformance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, I made listening maps for each season. They are a bit sloppy and hand drawn, but they sadly took me upwards of 6 hours to make. Its hard to boil things down to 3-6 year old in-take. It can be done, but it a process.
We also checked out this lovely audio story from the library “Vivaldi’s Ring of Mystery.” It is a 40 minute story with excellent actors and Vivaldi’s music in the background. It is a fictional story about one of the orphan girls of the Pieta in Venice when he was the head music teacher there. Berkeley actually listened to this story about 5 times in a week.
It was a success. The concert was great. Berkeley fell asleep in the last movement of Summer, but woke up and enjoyed the Beethoven. Katahdin loved it. Spring is his favorite, Autumn is mine, and Winter is Berk’s. I hope Phil likes Summer. He was in Florida at a course, so our friend Kylah came with us. The Rush Hour concerts are perfect for music loving kids. 6:30-8, no intermission, lots of explanation and food and drinks allowed. Now I need to get crackin’ on listening maps to make Bolero and Carmina Burana accessible this spring. That might take all winter.
