Katahdin and I spent last week in Utah visiting family. It was beautiful weather and so nice to hug people we haven’t seen in two years! We would have liked to stay for a month and see everyone! Aunt Autumn picked us up at the airport after 9 hours of traveling (that is about 205 miles per hour!- I love flying!). Katahdin made lots of friends. He travels standing up and peeking at snoring people around him. I am so glad it was still daylight when we flew into Utah. I admit that I really miss Utah – its unique beauty grew on me during my 5 years there. The mountains sure were a site for sore eyes as we flew overhead. Our pilot even took us over the Salt Flats and the Great Salt Lake. Funny all my years in Utah I never went to visit that.
First stop was to meet Grandpa Richard for the first time. Katahdin checked out all of his toys. The firetruck ball and the yogurt were approved. Katahdin really loved seeing his Grandpa.
Our next stop was in Springville, to see Natalie and Josh and their amazing boys- Caleb, Shiloh, Jubal, Micah, Cyrus, and Asher. We were also introduced to Basin, their friendly pet snake. Three of Nat’s boys are of the blond hair, fair eye variety, so Katahdin fit right in.
My younger brothers Royce and Regan are both working in Utah, so they were able to come and visit with us. The spring weather was so refreshing – sunny and breezy. We spent lots of time outside playing badmitten, volleyball, jumping on the trampoline, and playing at the park.
I intended to be helpful to Natalie, but all I was able to do was mend the stuffed crocodile who had been hunted a few too many times. Natalie was the one who helped me. She taught me how to be an organized and fun mom. Staying at her house was truly a retreat for a weary new mom. I will definitely need follow up phone consults:) Thank goodness for sisters.
Regan, Royce and Dad hiked the “Y” with us. We went early thursday morning. Again, the weather was ridiculously perfect for a hike: sunny and a breezy 60 something.
Uncles took turns wearing Katahdin. Dad educated us on the Y. It is the largest letter on a mountain side, even bigger than Hollywood. It is a short 1.2 mile hike, but steep – ending at 8520 feet. It was good practice for later this month when we will be hiking in Maine. I was so sore the next day. I’m still sore, a week later!
Well, it was over too quickly. Hopefully we will visit again before two more years pass. Sorry to have missed others there: Linda, Kristy and Chuibe, Erin, Doug and Kimberly, Danielle and Denise, and James. Maybe next time. In the meantime, feel free to come visit us!
